Lot Essay

This casket appears to have been constructed in the 19th century in order to showcase the Limoges enamels which it incorporates. The large oval panel on the lid is the earlier example, dating from the third quarter of the 16th century, with the rectangular panels around the body dating from slightly later, in the 17th century.
