"Vying with the '29 as the greatest vintage of La Mission. I had hardly heard of the Woltners when I first tasted it, but many notes later, through the 1970s and 1980s, confirmed its status. Three notes in the last decade: a deeply coloured; vigorous and 'stably' bouquet, gloriously tangy and high-toned, dining with the Lloyd Webbers in 1994; at 50 years of age, a gloriously rich, fragrant bottle; full-bodied, fabulous flavour, still tannic at Peter Ziegler's in 1995. Lastly a magnum, displaying its characteristic tobacco-like, gravelly flavour, very sweet, full, rich, spicy. Last noted at Christan Sveass' dinner is Oslo, April 1966 *****" MB, Vintage Wine
