Gallé is mentioned in Tardy's Dictionaire des horlogers Français as being active on Rue Vivienne in 1830. The signature probably refers to the bronzier Gérard Jean Gallé (1788-1846), the son of Claude Gallé (1759-1815) who was bronzier to the Garde-Meuble during the reign of Louis XVI and also during the Consulat and the Empire.
Another example of this model, identical apart from pad feet, from the Collection Léon Leroy is illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Français, vol. II. p. 234.
