Comprising an armoire, bedstead, coiffeuse, pair of bedside cabinets and overmantel mirror: the armoire surmounted by an arched pediment with ribbon-tied crest centred by an oval-plaque of cloudbourne putti, above three bevelled-mirrored doors enclosing a central base drawer and shelves above three drawers, the lockplated engraved A. CHEVRIE/Fabt/7, r Debelleque/Paris, the bedstead and mirror en suite, the coiffeuse with oval mirror plate and red-baize top above a long frieze drawer, on cabriole legs, the bedside-cabinets each with an oval brèche marble top above a frieze drawer and marble-lined pot cupboard, on cabriole legs joned by a tier, variously stamped A. CHEVRIE/PARIS
The armoire: 114 in. (290 cm.) high; 74¼ in. (189 cm.) wide; 20½ in. (52 cm.) deep
The bedstead: 70 in. (178 cm.) high, the backboard; 73½ in. (187 cm.) wide; 84 in. (213.5 cm.) long
The coiffeuse: 61 in. (155 cm.) high, overall; 40¾ in. (103.5 cm.) wide; 25¾ in. (65.5 cm.) deep
The bedside cabinets: 30½ in. (77.5 cm.) high; 19½ in. (49.5 cm.) wide; 16½ in. (42 cm.) deep

Lot Essay


A. Chevrié worked in Paris in the late 19th Century and is recorded at 11 rue Portefoin from 1878 until 1886. An ébéniste of high quality, he participated in the 1878 and 1889 Exposition Universelles, winning a silver medal at the later. A member of the jury for numerous exhibitions, in 1894 he received the medal of the légion d'honneur.
