Lot Essay

Tchelitchew met Nicholas Magallanes (1922-1977) in New York during the fall and winter of 1936-1937. In 1938, Tchelitchew introduced Magallanes to Lincoln Kirstein, who gave Magallanes a dance scholarship to the School of American Ballet. Magallanes was a principal dancer with the Ballet Cavaran, The New York School of Ballet and Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.
