Lot Essay

The model for this pair of gueridons was first executed by Adam Weisweiler, matre in 1778, and is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIII Sicle, 1998, p. 868, fig. A.

A virtually identical pair of gueridons was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 30 September 1998, lot 619 (12,650 with premium), and another sold anonymously, more recently, Christie's, London, 11 September 2008, lot 101 (11,250 with premium).
