Lot Essay

Regarded as one of the foremost bronziers of the period, the firm of Lerolle Frères was celebrated for their 'purity and originality of design' and their luxury decorations by 'first-class artists, while modelling, moulding, chiselling and finish rank among the bronze-masters of Paris' (Illustrated Catalogue of the Paris International Exhibition of 1878, p. 153).
