Arabic manuscript on gold speckled paper, 23ff. plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 10ll. of elegant black naskh, gold and polychrome strapwork roundel verse markers, text panels laid down between gold and polychrome rules, catchwords, elegant marginal hizb and 'ashr medallions with the text in kufic against a gold or blue ground with polychrome scrolls, headings in white on gold and polychrome illuminated ground, opening folio with similarly illuminated headpiece, colophon signed and dated, reverse of final folio with later owner's notes, some waterstaining, trimmed, in brown morocco binding with gilt stamped central lattice surrouned by scrolling vine, doublures of marbled paper

Lot Essay

Two manuscripts by Muhammad Husayn Bagh-Dashti are recorded in Tehran. One is dated AH 944/1537-38 AD and is in the Islamic museum. Another is a calligraphic exersise in a private collection. A further work is in this sale, see lot 83.
