SAFAVID IRAN, 17TH CENTURY
Arabic and Persian manuscript on paper, one panel with 4ll. of black nasta'liq on blue ground cut out in clouds and pasted on a white ground with gold floral illumination, laid down between light blue gold illuminated borders on wide buff borders with black outlined gold floral illumiatnion, the other panel with 5ll. of gold thuluth with the beginning of sura al-'alaq in clouds reserved against blue ground with delicate gold and polychrome scrolling and floral ilulmination, surmounted by a line of black thuluth with the title of the sura in a cloud reserved against gold ground with similar polychrome illumiantion, laid down between gold and polychrome rules on marbled borders, both panels mounted, framed and glazed
