The variety of Windsor chair designs in the 18th and 19th century is remarkable. London and the Thames Valley corridor produced a consistently high standard of workmanship. This set of 'best' armchairs bears the Prince of Wales feathers motif, dating them to the reign of the future George IV whilst Prince Regent. The most important firm of the day, the Prior family workshop of Uxbridge (fl.1760's-1840's) would have almost certainly made this distinctive high quality set. A similar chair in Uxbridge Library bears the stamp of Robert Prior.
