Lot Essay

The compositions in the present lot are inspired by Robert Home's drawings of Tippoo Sultan's soldiers, which he drew in 1791 at the end of the Third Mysore War. The present drawings were presumably done by Calcutta artists after Home got to Calcutta in 1795.
