A PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER
by the Batenin Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg, 1832-1839
Circular cup with flared rim, the centre of the bowl painted with a river landscape view of Pavlovsk Palace, a tree on the the left and a couple in the foreground, with foliate scroll handle, the border of the saucer decorated with a continuous landscape depicting trees and buildings, both with gilt rims and stylized geometrical borders, the cup marked under base with incised Cyrillic initials 'S.P.B' and two underglazed dots, the saucer apparently unmarked, painted with overglazed red '5'
