Lot Essay

This casket is reminiscent of polychromed works manufactured by the prolific firm of Christofle et Cie. during the latter half of the 19th century. The relief casting, as well as the palette of the polychrome patination, bear some resemblence to a pair of vases sold at Christie's, New York, 20 April 2006, lot 203.
