1875, impressed uppercase marks, listed as shape no. 1925, made by Henry Sanders and finished by Louis Solon
Each of shield shape, the gadrooned and beaded rim flanked by upright acanthus scroll handles, the shoulder molded and enriched with a rinceau band, finely painted and hand-tooled in white slip with paired Nereids or Centaurs flanking agricultural trophies emblematic of the sea or earth respectively among scrolling vine, the lower body with key-pattern and stiff-leaf tips, on a conforming socle and circular base, together with two later covers

Lot Essay

The present pair of vases was completed between the 11th of May and 11th of June 1875. Documented in Solon's illustrated Journal, the entry notes, Retoucher les figures sur une paire de vases faits par Sanders.
