Lot Essay

This region of Central Asia produces embroideries of superb quality chiefly but not exclusively characterised by the richness of the colour palette. The drawing of this example is very crisply executed and unusually 'tidy'. See From Thrace to Tartary, Black & Loveless, 1981, Catalogue Number 19 for another example with a lattice field. This susani is unusual in leaving the diaper pattern in reserve rather than drawn as a leaf lattice.
