Oblong and on four leaf-capped scroll feet, with scroll handles and gadrooned rim, the associated detachable cover with reed and foliage handle, engraved with an inscription, marked underneath and on cover bezel

Provenance
A gift to Princess May of Teck, later Queen Mary (1867-1953) by Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896) and his wife Effie Gray, first wife of John Ruskin, on the occasion of her marriage, on 6 July 1893, to Prince George, Duke of York, later King George V.
