Lot Essay

Mary Elizabeth Duffield née Rosenburg was the daughter of Thomas Elliot Rosenburg (1790-1835). She was married to the artist William Duffield (1816-1863) and was highly regarded during her life time for her high quality flower pictures such as the present work. She was elected to the New Society for Painters in Watercolour in 1861.
