Having tantalised generations, the Renaissance bibliophile whose books were adorned with a distinctive Apollo and Pegasus medallion was only identified as the Genoese G.B. Grimaldi in 1975 by Dr. A.R.A. Hobson. Grimaldi instructed the philosopher and poet Claudio Tolomei to form a complete library, suitable to Grimaldi's rank and aspirations. Tolomei had them bound at Rome by three shops, that of Guillery ('the best designer' of the 3 - Hobson) responsible for the majority. G.D. Hobson, Maioli, LVI; Burlington Exhibition, 1891, G6; A.R.A. Hobson, Apollo and Pegasus, no. 64; Adams G-1502.
