Lot Essay

Delacroix réalisa de nombreuses études inspirées de la littérature, de l'opéra et du théâtre d'après Pierre-Simon Ballanche (Le sac de Rome), d'après Shakespeare (Hamlet) ou encore d'après Goethe (Faust). Certaines études, à l'image de la présente aquarelle, sont peu identifiables: c'est le cas d'un Jeune guitariste en costume italien de la renaissance daté vers 1826-1828 comparable au présent jeune homme cuirassé (voir M. Sérullaz, et al., Dessins d'Eugène Delacroix, Paris, 1984, T.I, no. 557).
