Lot Essay

Mallow Castle in County Cork, Ireland, was built on the ruins of a fortress granted to Sir Thomas Norreys of Rycote in 1584. Designed in a turreted Jacobean style, Mallow Castle is noted for having held out the Confederates under Lord Mountgarret in 1642. The original castle was destroyed by fire in 1689 at which point the present Mallow Castle was built overlooking the Blackwater River.
