The Australians, 1884, played at Sheffield Park, May 12th, 13th and 14th [and:] England v Australians, 1884. Played at Lords, July 21st, 22nd and 23rd, two team photographs by E. Hawkins, Brighton, mounted on board with printed titles, team lists and photographer's credit, images 237 x 290 and 230 x 290mm., with mounts 286 x 355 and 337 x 397mm. (the former with some light scratch marks to image, and mount broken off at upper margin, the latter with soiling to mount); and a third photograph of W.G. Grace batting against Australia at Sheffield Park, 1884, inscribed in pencil (very faded).
THE FIRST OCCASION ON WHICH LORD SHEFFIELD ENTERTAINED THE AUSTRALIANS AT SHEFFIELD PARK. They defeated a strong home XI, led by W.G. Grace, by an innings and six runs. Yet England won the match at Lord's by an innngs and five runs, Steel scoring 148, and Ulyet taking 7 for 36 in Australia's second innings. Australia: P.S. McDonnell, G. Alexander, G. Giffen, G.E.
