Cette oeuvre s'inscrit dans les recherches sur l'utilisation des tissus que Sonia Delaunay a menées tout au long de sa vie. Sa première création date de 1909 avec la couverture (broderie de feuillage 85 x 60.5 cm.) et la couverture simultanée, de 1911 (111 x 82 cm.) oeuvre "abstraite" par excellence. Ces deux oeuvres sont aux cimaises du Musée National d'Art Moderne à Paris.
Evidemment, nous connaissons tous l'oeuvre vestimentaire que Sonia Delaunay a commencé pendant les sept ans passés dans la péninsule ibérique puis poursuivi en France notamment pour l'exposition au Musée des Arts Décoratifs à Paris en 1925. Par sa composition et sa date de création cette oeuvre se rattache toutefois plus à la création de tapis (projet de pavement pour la Maison de Tunisie à la Cité universitaire à Paris, 1955-56, ou bien encore un projet de tapis édité par la galerie Denise René, réalisé par l'atelier Tabard en 1959).
This work is part of the textile tradition that Sonia Delaunay cultivated throughout her career. It first emerged in 1909 with the leaf embroidery quilt (85 x 60.5 cm.) and the simultaneous quilt of 1911 (111 x 82 cm.), the archetypal "abstract" work. Both works hang in the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
We are obviously familiar with all the items of clothing that Sonia Delaunay began during the seven years she spent on the Iberian Peninsula and continued in France, particularly for the exhibition of decorative arts in Paris in 1925. However, the composition and creation date of this work links it more to the creation of rugs (ornamental tiling commission for the Maison de Tunisie at the Cité Universitaire in Paris, 1955-1956, or the rug project commissioned by the Galerie Denise René, produced by the Atelier Tabard in 1959).
