Lot Essay

In 1932 the Swedish retailer Nordiska Kompaniet, for whom Hjorth was in charge of furniture design, organized a display of furnishings, some of which had been previously presented at the 1929 Barcelona and 1930 Stockholm exhibitions. The exhibition included one of the two examples of this table that were produced.
Company records confirm that this example, which bears the probable exhibition number C25707 to the underside, was purchased from Nordiska Kompaniet on the 5th July 1932 by Adolf Stalbo, a prominent Swedish shipping industrialist.
