MACLEAN, Norman (1902-1990). A River Runs Through It. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1976.
8o. Original blue cloth, silver lettering on spine; pictorial dust jacket (slightest fading to spine, small repair at head of spine panel).
FIRST EDITION of Maclean's marvelous autobiographical stories, the title story weaving a poignant study of his family around the sport of angling. Maclean taught for years at the University of Chicago, and this was the first work of fiction issued by their press. They printed fewer than 1,200 copies. When a glowing review appeared in an angling journal, sales climbed and prompted numerous reprintings, deluxe editions and a film directed by Robert Redford.
