A Porcelain Cup And Saucer
by the Batenin Factory, St Petersburg, circa 1826
Cylindrical with flared rim, the gilt body decorated with two rectangular cartouches, one depicting a multi-coloured biblical scene of a Saint Christian preacher with a green cloak and a staff and a girl in a pink dress with a brown cloak, the second cartouche with a gilt ciselé design, the handle with a moulded medallion scroll containing a star, the gilt circular saucer with Cyrillic monogram 'ADB' in the centre and the date in Cyrillic '1826, 30th August', with gilt foliate design, apparently unmarked
Cup 4 7/8 in. (12.3 cm.) high with handle, saucer 6½ in. (16.4 cm.) diameter (2)
