MARK OF CCS WITH ARROW-HEAD ABOVE, CIRCA 1824
Rectangular with rounded corners, the cover with glazed gold panel chased in relief with sprays of flowers, two-colour gold acorn and oak leaf border, sides and base with blue enamel ground, respectively decorated with vertical gold lines and wavy bands, interior inscribed Alexander Hyperb. Regionis Autocrat Gul. Percivall D.D. cuyus operis de Arte Veter. voluit hoc esse testimonium A.D.1824 in fitted red leather case sold together with a contemporary letter in French to Mr. Percival (sic) dated London 15/27 September, 1824 from Count Christopher Lieven, Russian ambassador to the Court of St. James (1812/34) on behalf of the Emperor together with a duplicate letter in English translation
