Lot Essay

Henrick Zwaardecroon (26 January 1667-12 August 1728) was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1718 until 1725.

For a similar Dutch coffee-pot see Dr. J.R. ter Molen, Zilver- catalogus van de voorwerpen van edelmetaal in de collectie van het Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, 1994, p. 158-159 where a coffee-pot by the Amsterdam silversmith Pieter de Keen is illustrated. Another coffee-pot by the same maker is in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, see Jan Rüdolph de Lorn, Amsterdams Goud en Zilver, Zwolle, 1999, p. 101, nr. 48. A similar example of Joannes Winter, Amsterdam, can be found in J.W. Frederiks, Dutch silver, The Hague, 1958, Vol. II, p. 98, nr. 282.
