Lot Essay

Nicolete Gray writes 'The years between 1929 and 1932 were those when David Jones was most prolific, when he did what was considered his most mature and successful work. It was the time when he felt that his paintings "came off"' (see N. Gray, The Paintings of David Jones, London, 1989, p. 29).
