Lot Essay

Head of a Girl was executed after McCannell studied at the RCA between 1942-44 and married Peter Rees Roberts in 1945. McCannell was the youngest ever exhibitor at the Royal Academy and one of the few British artists with firsthand experience of the Spanish Civil War that subsequently influenced her work.
