Originally established as a crochet and knitwear business in 1966, Mike and Ritva Ross created 'The Ritva Man' label in 1969 with the aim of collaborating with artists such as David Hockney, Elisabeth Frink, Patrick Hughes and Allen Jones, to produce a limited edition of knitwear. Although intended to be issued in an editions of 200, it is likely that fewer than this were produced for each design. The embroidered Roman numerals embroidered in the collar were the artist's own examples.
