A John H. Goodrick is recorded as a Victualler, Shipbuilder and Cabinet Maker of King's Head in an 1823 Newcastle-on-Tyne Trade Directory.
The serpentine form and Grecian-scrolled leg can be compared to that of a 1789 pattern in the Gillow Archives (see L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs, 1995, fig. 117). It also relates to the work of the Edinburgh cabinet-maker, John Biggar (see F. Bamford, Dictionary of Edinburgh Wrights and Furniture Makers, 1987, pl. 17).
