Lot Essay

Luohans, also known as Arhats or 'Destroyers of the Passions', vary in numbers between sixteen and a hundred and are depicted in Chinese art from the Tang dynasty onwards. As Buddha's apostles they are associated with various mythical beasts and magical attributes.
