Lot Essay

The form of these wall appliques relates to the set delivered by Thomire-Duterne et Cie in 1809 for the chambre à coucher of the Emperor Napoleon and Le Grand Salon of the Impératrice at the Chateau de Fontainebleau, (see: J-P. Samoyault. Catalogue des Collections de Mobilier, Musée National du Chateau de Fontainebleau, Paris, 1989, vol. 1, pp. 112 and 113). A further set was delivered to the Grand Trianon in 1813 for the Cabinet Particular de l'Empereur (see D. Ledoux-Lebard, l'Inventaire du Grand Trianon, Paris, 1977, p. 150)
