Lot Essay

The pastel The Knitting Room is identical in composition to, and without doubt is based upon, Vos's most celebrated and important oil Room in a Brussels Almshouse, in the collection Verpleegklinick Klevarie Maastricht. In 1886 Vos received the first of many gold medals at the Paris Salon for this painting.
