Lot Essay

The model for these candlesticks derives from a design by Juste-Aurle Meissonnier (1675-1750), illustrated P. Fuhring, Juste-Aurle Meissonnier, Un gnie du rococo, Turin, 1999, p. 319. The design, dated 1728, was originally intended to be executed in silver, but prooved so popular it was soon also executed in ormolu and porcelain
