Lot Essay

This style of chimneypiece bears stylistic similarities to the work of the Venetian artist Giovanni Zamolo. He exhibited a chimneypiece at the Italian Court of the 1867 Paris Exhibition, illustrated in The Art Journal Catalogue of the Paris Universelle Exposition of 1867, London, 1867, p.207. Another comparable chimneypiece features at Temple Newsam House, Leeds, (Christopher Gilbert Furniture at Temple Newsam and Lotherton Hall, 1978, cat.no.198, p.155).
