A gilt bronze figure of a Buddha Shakyamuni
Nepal, dated NS 970 (1850 AD)
Seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base with beaded rim, his left hand in dhyana mudra and his right in bhumispara mudra, clad in a voluminous sanghati with folds pooling around his feet, his face in a serene expression with a polychromed urna and flanked by elongated earlobes, his hair pulled over the ushnisha surmounted by a finial, backed by a foliate torana and over a stepped lion throne inscribed on all four sides

Lot Essay

The inscription indicates that the present example was commissioned by Bhajudhana, a Newar living in Lhasa, for his deceased father.
