A gilt-silver table cabinet (kodansu) in the form of an ox-drawn court carriage (goshoguruma)
Meiji Period (19th century)
The front shutters of the carriage opening to reveal three rectangular drawers lined with green velvet, the interior faces of the shutters engraved with a branch of plum blossoms (left) and a branch of pine (right); the exterior of the carriage cast with fretwork and basketweave and with tassels in high relief, the roof engraved with phoenixes and clouds, with fully rotating wheels, ladder and step stool, stamped ginsei (made of silver) on the bottom of the carriage, on a short custom wooden plinth
