Suit of armor with a nanban-style helmet and do
Momoyama-Edo period (late 16th-17th century)
The suit laced in blue and lacquered black and comprising: a russet-iron momo-nari kabuto constructed of four plates joined with standing rivets finished in shakudo and with an applied gilt-copper band running along the medial ridge and across the front of the mabi-sashi, carved with scrolling vines, the surface of the bowl decorated with Chinese characters and the mabi-sashi and the bottom edge of the bowl with scrolling vines, in low-relief russet lacquer, the crown of the helmet pierced with inoshishi-me apertures lined in shakudo, gilt-copper and black-lacquer disc maedate with a heraldic crest of the Mori clan, the bowl fitted with a five-lame neck guard and small fukigaeshi; the russet-iron face mask forged with a hinged nose piece and deep wrinkles and applied with a boar's hair moustache, teeth silver lacquer, fitted with a four-lame throat guard; the cuirass a two-plate hotoke do applied on the front with brocade decorated with scrolling vines, the reverse lacquered black, the lower part of the cuirass with two rows of kozane, fitted with six sections of five-lame tassets, the tasset on the front right three lames, the lowest lame extended and lacquered silver and pierced with inoshishi-me, laced in white and green; chu-sode, shino-gote, kawara-haidate and tsutsu suneate with additional plates around the top; wood storage box and no armor stand
