A Large Incised Celadon Stoneware Ewer
Goryeo dynasty (12th century)
Of elongated double-gourd form with curved, oval spout, small top opening and twisted loop handle moulded with a ring for securing a cover, incised on opposite sides of the lower body with lotuses and peonies surrounded by scalloped clouds and sacred fungus, the spout incised with lines to indicate the stem and leaf of a lotus and the upper gourd incised with two clusters of fungus below a narrow band of fretwork at the rim; the vessel also decorated by a bright greenish-blue celadon glaze, brown in tone on one half of the upper gourd, with long crackle, flat base unglazed
