Lot Essay

The picture represents a section of the Moorish aqueduct on the outskirts of Algeciras looking towards Gibraltar, which features in East's Academy exhibition pieces of 1902 (Walker Art Gallery) and 1906 (Private Collection). It has been suggested that the work dates from about 1905.
