A silver-mounted coconut cup and a cover
Circa 1560, possibly German, only struck with indistinct maker's mark
On circular foot with stepped base, the tapering foot and stem chased with shaped oval and elongated lobes and with moulded spearhead border, the nut carved to one side with the scene of The Tree of Jesse, the second side carved with the scene of Susanna and the Elders, the third side carved with a wedding scene, enclosed within three vertical straps, one engraved with a coat-of-arms enclosing a unicorn, the second with the text don.in/ff.vic:mem., the third with the text M.D.V/velden, the shoulder engraved with ...Gott... and further indistinct German inscription, the raised cover with high openwork border and similarly chased to the foot, the finial formed as a merman holding sword and shield, engraved with a similar coat-of-arms, marked on foot
