Each of beaten gold sheet with a square aperture in the center, one side chased and divided into four quadrants by bands of cloud scroll alternately enclosing cranes and clouds reserved on a fine punched ground, with further cloud scroll in the outer border

Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1980s.

Specialist note

Two gold discs of this type chased with characters within the quadrants, dated to the Song dynasty, are illustrated in Chinesisches Gold und Silber: Die Sammlung Pierre Uldry, Reitberg Museum, Zürich, 1994, p. 226, nos. 264 and 265.
