Lot Essay

This work is probably a study for 'Mural for the Ivy, 1990' which was commissioned for the Ivy Restaurant, London and is reproduced in A. Lambirth, Allen Jones Works, London, 2005, p. 146. The work also has similarities to the Island series of lithographs of the late 1980s which were inspired by a holiday to the Caribbean (see M. Livingstone and R. Lloyd, Allen Jones, Munich, 1995, pp. 132-3).
