Comprising two armchairs and four side chairs, each covered in black and cream striped silk, the chaises stamped C.H.MUNIER, one with pencil inscription LORMAN B [?] and another with stenciled stamp CH.MUNIER TAPISSIER...MENUISIER [?]... and pencil inscription M. DA... (6)

Lot Essay

CHARLES MUNIER IS RECORDED AS A TAPISSIER, MIROITIER ET FABRICANT DES MEUBLES, ESTABLISHED AT 41-43 RUE MESLAY AND THEN 164 RUE MONTMARTRE FROM 1830-1863. AROUND 1840 HE OBTAINED THE TITLE OF FOURNISSEUR DU MOBILIER DE LA COURONNE. HE WAS ESSENTIALLY AN UPHOLSTERER AND RECOVERED NUMEROUS CHAIRS FOR THE GARDE MEUBLE, WHICH HE BRANDED WITH HIS STAMP. IN 1836-1837 HE COMPLETED WORK FOR VERSAILLES AND THE GRAND TRIANON, AND IN 1853 FOR THE TUILERIES.
