Each of tripartite shield shape, molded with three tapering pilasters enclosing panels painted in the style of William Cook, two of a cluster of flowers in the French style and one of birds perched among leafy branches, the conforming socle raised on bracket feet

For similarly painted birds and flowers, see Michael Messenger, Coalport 1795-1926, Suffolk, 1995, pp. 226, 233 and 256. Also see p. 35 for a pink-ground vase of the same shape exhibited at the 1871 South Kensington International Exhibition. Another pair of this form painted by Randall was sold Christie's, New York, 26 October 2004, lot 70.
