Lot Essay

The present rug appears to take as its model a different Mughal pashmina prayer rug than the previous lot. The border is densely filled with small floral sprays in the manner of the finest of the Mughal examples. It also uses multicoloured silk warps which are also a feature of the earlier Mughal rugs. The colouring and the wool however make is clear that this is a Fereghan rug. For a longer discussion of the group please see the note to the previous lot.
