A PAIR OF ETCHED GAUNTLETS, PROBABLY INNSBRUCK
CIRCA 1550-80
Each with flared pointed bracelet cuff embossed for the ulna, metacarpus of six lames, raised cabled knuckle plate and a single articulation over the top of the fingers, decorated throughout with bands of edged foliage on a blackened granular ground, the borders and finger plates involving fleur-de-lys, the principle bands involving mythical birds and grotesque masks, recessed borders with turned roped edges, and each fitted with later etched thumb defences and finger defences (2)
