FELLOWS, Charles (1799-1860). A Journal written during an Excursion in Asia Minor ... 1838. London: John Murray, 1839. Large 8° (246 x 173mm), etched frontispiece, double-page engraved map, 20 lithographic plates, wood-engravings, after Fellows. (Some spotting to plates, creasemark to title.) Original green cloth gilt (corners bumped, front free endpaper cut away). Provenance: S.E. Widdrington, Newton Hall (bookplate). FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL CLOTH. The author's 1838 explorations into the interior of Asia Minor led to the discovery of a number of cities existing before 300 BC, including Xanthus and Tlos. Atabey I, 424; Blackmer 578.
