No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… Read more THE PROPERTY OF A NOBLEMAN (LOTS 229 & 230) The following two lots were inherited by the present owner from Sir George Labouchère (1905-99), diplomat and art collector. Sir George shared his love of art with his wife, Rachel, and their renowned collection of modern art commenced whilst he was Ambassador to Belgium from 1955-60; they developped a particular interest in Spanish art whilst he was Ambassador to Spain from 1960-66. The Labouchères married in 1943 and served in China for the Foreign Office from 1946-48. On completion of Sir George's diplomatic service in 1966, their collection of both modern and ancient art was brought back to Dudmaston Hall, their country estate in Shropshire. The Labouchères presented the estate, house and contents to the care of the National Trust in 1978.

The high-shouldered vessel finely decorated around the exterior with gnarled leafy branches bearing peaches and other fruits, below a wide band of meandering scrolls at the shoulder and above a lappet band, the foot with overlapping plantain leaves
14 in. (35.5 cm.) high.
